Woden Bus Depot in Canberra chooses Christ ECOBUS system

Opening in 2025, Woden Bus Depot is the latest development towards Transport Canberra’s plan for full electrification of their public transport fleet by 2040. With capacity for up to 100 primarily electric buses, the depot needed a reliable, high quality system that could handle high volumes of daily washes.

How the auto bus wash system works

Made in Germany, the Christ ECOBUS C4000 is a four brush vertical drive through bus wash system that can feature an optional roof brush. Designed as a drive through system, it needs no bus positioning. You simply drive through the bus wash at the desired speed and the four brushes rotate, coming across the front of the bus, down the sides, and then crossing over to wash the rear of the bus also.

The Christ ECOBUS C4000 has a full electronic control over the brush pressure, which reads the bus according to the program that’s set. The bus goes through a pre-wash, then the four vertical brushes move across the front, down each side, before the system performs a final rinse.

The wash cycle sequence is the LED entry signal comes on, the bus proceeds into the wash, and the system automatically senses the bus’s entry.

There’s a medium pressure pre-wash and shampoo. The front brush closes in and cleans the front fascia. The side brush contour along the full bus length, then the rear brushes close in to complete the rear wash. The bus then moves through the final rinsing arch to complete the cycle.

Why Transport Canberra chose the Christ ECOBUS auto bus wash system

Transport Canberra needed a wash that could handle a high volume of buses every hour. Designed for performance and efficiency, minimal water usage, and speed of throughput, the Christ ECOBUS C4000 meets this need.

It’s also provisioned with a full water treatment system, allowing the ECOBUS to reuse water from its wash cycles. It results in an 85% reduction in potable water use, along with lower energy and chemical consumption – all of which are important for environmental considerations.

The system is fully compliant with EPA requirements and Australian Standard AS 5667, delivering reliable performance, environmental responsibility, and consistent wash quality for large bus fleets.

  • Automatic vertical drive-through design
  • Four-brush cleaning system
  • Minimal water consumption
  • Integrated water treatment and recycling
  • EPA & AS 5667 compliant
